Joe Edward

Artist

Self-taught, experimental artist working across a range of media including pencil and charcoal drawing, painting and printmaking.

Many pieces are developed over time, with layers of texture and mark making building up an image that forms itself gradually.

Each mark adds to the history of the work, and through scraping and reapplying colour, line and shape in various media; the final piece is a semi-abstract, expressionist view of the world via the fictional landscape he has built up called The Flatlands.

The Flatlands are based on the wide open spaces and massive skies of the rural fens of Lincolnshire, where both Joe and Bill grew up. Through research of the myth and social history of the region, alongside fictional storytelling, a parallel world has developed that is constantly evolving. ---READ MORE ABOUT FLATLAND HERE---

FP is currently developing the Flatland concept further, using experiments in video, animation, photography, music and soundscapes to expand on the themes, characters and mood of the world.

Joe is currently based in Macclesfield via London, Hastings and Scotland
